Havoc at Harrison Hospital: The Adventures of Nora Brady, Student Nurse is the second in a series about the adventures of sleuth/ student nurse Nora Brady, a modern, updated Sue Bartlett or Cherry Ames. This charming mystery has a vintage flavor that is most appealing, but it is also a product of its time.

In addition to being a logical, progressive, well-planned mystery with thoughtful hidden clues strewn artfully through the chapters, Havoc at Harrison Hospital has the quality of style and grace that can arrest attention and inspire young minds. Values like perseverance, skilled observation and care, the dignity of knowing and delivering a professional standard of care, and even the seminal concept of a code of nursing, or health care standards, all these concepts build a solid underlying structure to the intriguing mystery of Havoc at Harrison Hospital.

Nora is brave, spunky, and curious about both nursing and medical learning and getting to the bottom of a very complicated chain of events in the hospital setting. Excitingly paced, Havoc at Harrison Hospital is a charming mystery with a message and engaging key characters. We may anticipate more delicious Nora Brady student nurse mysteries to be savored in the future.

ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL NURSE PENS SECOND CHILDREN'S NOVEL

EUREKA -- M.E. Roche, a St. Joseph Hospital nurse by day and young adult author by night, has penned a second novel in her series chronicling the adventures of student nurse Nora Brady.

Roche's first book, “The Adventures of Nora Brady, Student Nurse: Mystery at Marian Manor,” was published in 2008 and is now followed by its sequel, “The Adventures of Nora Brady, Student Nurse: Havoc at Harrison Hospital.”

The books follow the experiences of Nora Brady, a student nurse learning about the ins and outs of health care in the fictional town of Jacobsport, California. In the first book, Nora is a student nurse at a nursing home who starts her own investigation when mysterious things start happening to the nursing home residents.

In the second book, Nora is again involved in a murder mystery but she is now in a different setting -- at a hospital where she is learning a more critical type of patient care. She is surrounded by the same support group: the friends and nurses she introduced to readers in the first book, as well as Dan McGuire, a police detective.”

I have always loved children's books and mysteries,” Roche said. “And they always tell you to write what you know. These books combine my understanding of the nursing profession with my love of mysteries.”

Roche identifies with her characters and bases many of the events that take place on her own experiences as a nurse. She highlights nurse-patient Advertisement Quantcast interactions and seeks to show what a nurse's day is like. Roche is currently working on a third novel in the series, this one set at a hospital in Ireland, where Roche herself spent several years working as a pediatric nurse when she first graduated.

NURSE MOONLIGHTS AS AUTHOR

EUREKA - If asked what she does for a living, M.E. Roche would say she is a nurse - something she has been for nearly 40 years. But in her spare time, she also writes children's novels.

Roche, a nurse at St. Joseph Hospital, is the author of the recently published young adult novel “The Adventures of Nora Brady, Student Nurse: Mystery at Marian Manor.” The book chronicles the experiences of Nora Brady, a student nurse learning about the ins and outs of health care at Marian Manor, a nursing home in the fictional town of Jacobsport, Calif. When mysterious things start happening at Marian Manor, Nora starts her own investigation. Problems crop up along the way, including the young police detective assigned to the case who is determined that she not interfere

“I have always loved children's books and mysteries,” Roche said. “And they always tell you to write what you know. Nursing has changed over the years and yet no new fiction has been written for young people in nearly 50 years. I wanted to spark their interest in health care.”

Roche identifies with her characters and bases many of the events that take place on her own experiences as a nurse. She highlights nurse-patient interactions and seeks to show what a nurse's day is like. Mystery at Marian Manor is the first in a series of mystery novels Roche has planned. While the first book is set in a nursing home, the next two take place at hospitals - one in the United States and one in Ireland, where Roche spent several years working as a pediatric nurse when she first graduated.
